The capital of Russia is Moscow. It is the largest political, scientific, cultural and industrial center. It was founded in 1147 by Yuri Dolgorukiy. Though Peter the Great moved the capital to Saint Petersburg in 1712, Moscow remained the heart of Russia. After the October revolution, Moscow became a capital again. Now it is one of the largest cities in Europe. The population of the city is over 9 millions.

The largest museums are the Pushkin museum of Fine Arts and the State Tretyakov gallery. Moscow is famous for its theatres.
